Buddhist thought for the week
The first step of the Eightfold Path is Right Views, which means Knowledge of the Four Noble Truths.
The Four Noble Truths (Pali: Cattāri ariyasaccāni, Sanskrit: Catvāri āryasatyāni, Chinese: Sìshèngdì, Thai: อริยสัจสี่, Ariyasaj Sii) are one of the most fundamental Buddhist teachings. They appear many times throughout the most ancient Buddhist texts, the Pali Canon. They are among the truths Gautama Buddha is said to have realized during his experience of enlightenment.[1]
Why the Buddha is said to have taught in this way is illuminated by the social context of the time in which he lived. The Buddha was a Śramaṇa, a wandering ascetic whose "aim was to discover the truth and attain happiness."[2] He is said to have achieved this aim while under a bodhi tree near the Ganges River; the Four Noble Truths are a formulation of his understanding of the nature of "suffering",[3] the fundamental cause of all suffering, the escape from suffering, and what effort a person can go to so that they themselves can "attain happiness."[2]
These truths are not expressed as a hypothesis or tentative idea, rather the Buddha says:
“ These Four Noble Truths, monks, are actual, unerring, not otherwise. Therefore, they are called noble truths.[4] ”
The Buddha says that he taught them...
“ ...because it is beneficial, it belongs to the fundamentals of the holy life, it leads to disenchantment, to dispassion, to cessation of suffering, to peace, to direct knowledge, to enlightenment, to Nirvana. That is why I have declared it.[5] ”
This teaching was the basis of the Buddha's first discourse after his enlightenment.[6] In early Buddhism this is the most advanced teaching in the Buddha's Gradual Training.
Mahayana Buddhism regards these as a preliminary teaching for people not ready for its own teachings.[7]
Strictly speaking, "truths" is a mistranslation; "realities" would be better: these are "things", not statements, in the original grammar.[8]

Vote Baby Vote!!
Today is November 6Th and that means Americans everywhere have the right to exercise one of they're most important civic duties.
I encourage everyone to go to the polls and participate. We are lucky enough to live in country where we can be heard by our leaders and influence the course of they're actions.
Nothing will change if we don't all play our part.
And at the least you'll know that you took the time to express what you'd like to see happen in our country. So vote baby, vote.
Because it's important and no matter what you hear...
Your vote counts!!!

Thanks for the Fun Weekend/ Photos
I was away in San Jose, having tons of fun this past weekend. Thanks to my friends who put up with me and listened to my crazy thoughts, hopes and ideas!!
The humans I meet there were cool and I'm grateful and glad to have met each of you!! You boys are the best!!!!!
Erwin, you've been a great friend and I really appricate your energy and being. Thanks for hauling our ass's there and defending me with your "Sword of Truth"!! ;-)
These photos gives you a small but interesting view. However, it tells only a small part of what I've been up to.
I must say... I live a very active and interesting life!!!
One day, many written and filmed stories shall spring from my mind. A lot of them will directly relate to this time in my life. But for now these pic's will have to do!!
I Hope you enjoy them!!!
Peace

And it will only get better
It's Saturday evening and I write this post from a long time friends apartment up the street from mine.
My mood is bright and cheerful because tonight will offer fun and eventful affairs.
People come and go. I continue to learn and grow. Removing those who hinder, hurt or harm me frees me to find others who are kindred spirits.
To finally come to a place of peace, personal growth and closer with prior abusive relationships makes my life a fine place to reside . The term "better off" doesn't come close to accurately describing the changes that were the results of ending the relationship JT and I had.
My emotional strength, self love, intellect, ethics, family, friends and lovers were the light house that I followed towards gaining back the happiness that JT stole and misused.
I can and will continue to improve and there will be a time when everything I want (and have worked towards) will come to pass.
Happy? Yes I am.
And it will only get better.

What's Going On
Many weeks have passed since I've taken the time to write about what's going on with me.
All in all my world has been quite and with out many surprises or unexpected events.
My building management job has continued unabated and remains my main source of income and stability. I'm grateful for the position and am looking to improve my financial health by seeking another position to supplement my income. Maybe a job at a gym or health club? Honestly, I'm not sure yet but starting today I'll be perusing the on-line help wanted list's. Hopefully something will rear it's head and the search wont be difficult.
This past weeks Debut at 550 Barnveld went seemingly well! The models were fierce while the haircuts/styles/ colors were even fiercer. It's so much fun playing music for people and watching them dance to my beats. I always look forward to playing for the school and I can't wait for the next Debut to happen Winter 2008!!!
The drug study at Saint Luke's progresses and is entering it's final laps. I've been doing great on that front and have learned a lot about myself, addictions and feelings.
On a personal note: I've been spending most my time with a new friend. His name is Will and honestly I'm not sure where things are progressing between us. He's a real handsome, sweet and caring guy who is starting to positively effect me emotionally. Let's hope the trend continues.
Hopefully later today I'll be able to drag myself to the gym and get a good start to my week. Working out is fun and I love the results (and attention) it brings. Not to mention that having a fit body furthers and helps my mind stay sharp and focused. Also, I'm not getting any younger and one must keep up appearances!
I guess that's about it in a nut shell.
Mr. Burns is stable, healthy and over all: happy.
I hope these trends continue!!!!!

Buddhist Thought For the Week
A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions. - Oliver Wendell Holmes
Photos and more
Wow, what a interesting last couple of days it's been for me.
I've been hanging with friends and enjoying the weather of this great State I live in.
There's not a lot of time at present to delve into my feelings or for me to detail everything I've been up to so my posted photos will have to do.
I'll write more later.
Peace.

Buddhist Thought For the Week
Only the curious will learn, only the resolute overcome the obstacles to learning. The Quest quotient has always excited me more than the intelligence quotient. - Eugene S. Wilson
THANK YOU!!!
Today, I scheduled a hair and color appointment for this coming Saturday at the Paul Mitchell Esthetics and Cosmetology School. At first I wasn't able to get the stylist (his name is Josh and he's the best and hottest stylist I've worked with) I wanted.
After calling a friend (who happens to also be the admissions director) I was able to get the the stylist and the time/date I desired!
As House DJ I guess I got some pull at the school. So I'm extending thanks to my friend Aaron who once again came through for me!
This coming Wendesday (10-24) is the next Debut and Mr. Burns must look his best!!
So thanks again Mr. Palm!!! You're the BOMB!!!

Plodding Along
The days and nights of San Francisco for me have been pretty much following the same routine these last couple weeks.
I've been plodding along feeling good and over all fairly happy with life. Sometimes, I get bored and wonder if I'm living a perdictable and unexciting exsistance.
Those feelings rarely last as I live in a place that always has something going on and plenty of people to do. Not to mention, my various art projects.
Basically put; staying bored is a choice because I can always find ways to spend my time.
When school starts in January I'll be able to add that as a welcome distraction. Going to City College last year only whetted my appetite for further education and growth.
I just have to get through these next few months then my routine will be changed in ways I can only imagine presently.
Damn, I can't wait!!!

Wet Friday
Today is one wet Friday here in Fog City.
I managed to get soaked because I had a couple of errands that took me out in the rain.
The rain always makes me feel like a kid. I love stepping in puddles and feeling the water splash against my face.
The City always looks, smells and feels cleaner after a good soaking. When the sun returns, my home turf will be sparkling and our air clear and fresh.
I love living in San Francisco!!!

Hanging with Friends, Making Art & Watching TV
For the most part things have been mellow here at Apartment Burns. I've been doing my normal routine as Building Manager while hanging with friends, making art and watching a ton of television shows. Sometimes these shows are watched via the internet which I am very grateful for.
The idea that one can watch any of the big threes current shows on my Mac makes me smile and gives me so much more to watch and see!
Today, I'm still recovering from my weekend of fun. I've been coping with a bit of a chest cold and sinus drainage so I'm pumping up on Emergen-C's(thanks Geoffrey: You're a real doll for taking such good care of me last night!!), green tea and sleep.
Oh...And more tv shows!! ;-p

Living By The Minutes
As I was sleepily working around my building this AM I realized that my life has become a very busy place of late.
Between my working as Building Manager and life's other various activities and responsibilities, I've found very little time to write, work out or sleep.
With so much to do I find myself living by the minutes and motoring from place to place while certainly getting things done!
I don't mind the pace at all but I've got to find a better balance so that I can fit all three of those things back into my schedule.
On that note: I say good day because now I've got to get to Saint Luke's and play lab rat.
Ciao main friends, foes and hoes!!!

Buddhist Thought for the Week
While the Tathagata, in his teaching, constantly makes use of conceptions and ideas about them, disciples should keep in mind the unreality of all such conceptions and ideas. They should recall that the Tathagata, in making use of them in explaining the Dharma always uses them in the semblance of a raft that is of use only to cross a river. As the raft is of no further use after the river is crossed, it should be discarded. So these arbitrary conceptions of things and about things should be wholly given up as one attains enlightenment. -Buddha
Caffine stirs my brian
Hopped out of bed this morning onto my computer because I noticed that I've not written very much in the last few weeks. There hasn't been any reason why ....I have just had nothing to say or I've been slacking! You choose!! ;-p
That trends continues this am as I'm drawing a blank.
So lets not talk about me for a change.
Let us talk about you!!!! How are you today? (pulls out chair for you..) What's new??
LOL. OK. Not writing for as long as I have has definitely taken an effect!
I'm gonna go make some coffee or green tea and see if the caffine stirs my brian.
After that, I'll hop on some of my building duties and hopefully I'll have more to say and add to my blog later.
Hoping your brian is working faster than mine.
